November 9, 2023: Earthcare’s biosolids and poultry manure processing facility in Bethel, PA, is nearing completion and is entering the pre-commissioning phase of plant operations. The two-module facility consists of two gasifier trains that will have the capacity to process 87,600 wet tons of biosolids per year in addition to egg layer feedstocks provided by local agricultural resources.

“This is an exciting phase of the process as we continue to overcome certain supply chain and utility challenges with the goal of operating at full scale by the end of the year.” said Mike McGolden. The facility is the first of its kind in terms of organics management and biochar production, a space in which McGolden has developed significant expertise over the last 20+ years. Earthcare’s patented gasification technology has been deployed in organics management applications worldwide, with more than ten gasifiers currently operating. It is also considered a leading technology in the capture and destruction of emerging contaminants, such as PFAS.

Through Earthcare’s affiliated entities, Ecochar and Echochar Environmental Solutions, Earthcare’s unique biochar product, Ecochar™, has been brought to the market in a number of beneficial use applications, including as a soil amendment to enhance soil health and nutrient retention, as a stormwater filtration and treatment media, and as an agricultural supplement in animal bedding for moisture and ammonia reduction as well as odor control. Earthcare’s Bethel facility is expected to yield more than 7,000 tons of biochar annually.
