Ohio Heifer Center – Single Module Plant Processing Animal Manure & Bedding Material

In an effort to provide a more cost-effective bedding solution, in addition to avoiding escalating costs for manure handling and disposal, Earthcare’s gasification technology was installed in 2012 at the Ohio Heifer Center in South Charleston, Ohio. The facility is owned and operated by Sexing Technologies which houses approximately 4,500 dairy cows. Earthcare’s drying and gasification technology processes up to 240 tons per day of raw manure (approximately 65% moisture content) which generates more than 140 tons of dry, pathogen-free manure daily. Of this output, approximately 100 tons per day is used as bedding providing for a circular recycling solution to bedding and manure management. The facility operates 24 hours a day, 5 days per week and yields an annual cost savings well into the six figures.

In addition, the facility generates approximately 3,000 tons of nutrient-rich biochar annually that has a variety of environmentally beneficial uses including soil amendment application, stormwater filtration, and agricultural feed and bedding amendments for odor control.
